"That was Then, This is Now" Wooden, Fiberglassics, and
Classic and Modern Racing Boat Show and Racing Exhibition. Welcome to "That Was Then, This Is Now" Muscatine Boat Show and Racing Boat Exhibition. The event that started out on a whim has grown to be the place to be every 3rd weekend in May. Do you remember when communities would get together in a city park in the 50s' and 60s' and celebrate with a little bit of everything for all ages? It was a community celebration. There would be great food, music, and games and fellowship for all. Muscatine used to do just that as part of their annual boat races. Muscatine was also the first location for boat racing on the Mississippi. Muscatine is rich in boat racing history with Chap Hanley, a World Champion Hydroplane racer, being a Muscatine native. Well, we missed the good old days so we decided to bring them back. The City of Muscatine, Iowa and Clear Lake Chapter of the ACBS are proud to welcome you to the "Best of Both Worlds" boat show and racing boat exhibition. You will see the glorious mahogany wooden boats of the past, fiberglassics of the 50's and 60's, and racing boats from yesterday and today. Muscatine is the perfect place to see your favorite mahogany classics from Chris Crafts to Century, Hackercraft, Aristocraft, Speedliner, and others. Then stroll down to the early years of fiberglass boat construction with fiberglassics that will include early Correct Craft inboards to a Herter's Flying Fish or Beeline Outboard. Then jump ahead in time to the evolution in boating with racing boats of yesterday and today. See open and closed cockpit boats in all categories from the Vintage Hydroplane Association to some of today's top boats in all of the classes of the American Drag Boat Association (ADBA) and American Power Boat Association (APBA) classes of competition This is a unique event and we want to make this an event that will only continue to grow. Check the website map page and you will see we are an easy drive from most locations. We will do what we can to make this show grow into the "Sturgis" of the boating world. We have one objective here and that is to provide a non-political event where everyone just has a good time. There is no judging of anything except the approval of the public and participants to keep on rolling from year to year. We want to give you a first class event that will become your kick-off event from year to year. The boats will be displayed on and off the water and everyone will be sure to be at the river's edge to watch the boats on the water. |
